# Targeting

One short link can lead to different pages depending on who opens it. Targeting rules live on the **Targeting** tab of a link and come in two kinds.

## Geo targeting

A geo rule pairs a country with its own destination URL. Visitors from that country go there; everyone else falls through to the link's normal destination.

Use it for country-specific shops, regional landing pages or language variants of the same page.

## OS targeting

An OS rule pairs an operating system with its own destination. The available systems are iOS, Android, Windows, macOS and Linux.

The typical case is a download link: send iOS to the App Store, Android to Play, everyone else to your website.

## How a destination is picked

For every visit, Zulink walks through the rules in a fixed order and takes the first thing that matches:

1. A geo rule for the visitor's country.
2. An OS rule for the visitor's operating system.
3. An active [A/B test](https://docs.zulink.co/links/a-b-testing) variant.
4. The link's normal destination.

A country rule therefore always wins over an OS rule, and both win over a running test. Whatever destination is chosen, the link's UTM parameters and the visitor's own query parameters are appended to it, so campaign parameters never have to be repeated per rule.

## Rules of the tab

- Each country and each operating system can appear only once per link.
- Each rule needs its own destination; the same URL cannot be used twice.
- A rule without a destination is not saved.

## How the country is determined

The country comes from the visitor's IP address. It is resolved while the request is being handled and never stored, and the result is the country and nothing finer. No city, no address, no coordinates.

Visitors whose country cannot be determined are treated as unmatched and fall through to the next step.

## Availability

Targeting is available from the Pro plan upwards. If you downgrade, existing rules are kept but stop being editable.
