# What is Zulink?

Zulink turns long URLs into short links on domains you own, and tells you what happened after someone clicked. A link here is more than a redirect: it can carry campaign parameters, send visitors from different countries to different pages, split traffic across variants, ask for a password, and control the preview card that appears when the link is pasted into a chat.

## How it fits together

Everything lives inside a **project**. A project has its own domains, links, designs, members, roles and plan. Switching projects in the sidebar switches all of it at once, so give every brand, product or client its own project.

Inside a project the pieces stack up like this:

- A **domain** is a hostname you connect and verify once, for example `go.example.com`. Links can only be created on a verified domain.
- A **link** is a short path under one of those domains, for example `go.example.com/spring`. The path is unique per domain.
- A **tag** is a label you attach to links so a long list stays manageable.

A link always belongs to exactly one domain. Removing a domain removes its links with it, so treat a verified domain as being as permanent as the links you printed on it.

## What a link can do

| Setting | What it does |
| ---------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Destination | The URL the short link stands for. |
| UTM parameters | Campaign parameters that get appended on every redirect. |
| Expiration | A date after which the link stops working. |
| [Targeting](https://docs.zulink.co/links/targeting) | Sends a country or an operating system to its own destination. |
| [A/B testing](https://docs.zulink.co/links/a-b-testing) | Splits traffic across up to four URLs. |
| [Password protection](https://docs.zulink.co/links/link-security) | Asks for a password before the redirect happens. |
| [Social previews](https://docs.zulink.co/links/social-previews) | Sets the title, description and image other platforms show. |
| Cloaking and indexing | Keeps the destination hidden, or keeps the link out of search results. |

Which of these you can use depends on your plan. See [Plans and limits](https://docs.zulink.co/team-and-plans/plans-and-limits).

## Where things live

- **Links** is the list of every short link in the project, with search, filters and click counts.
- **OpenGraph Designer** is a canvas editor for reusable preview images.
- **Analytics** shows clicks, visitors and breakdowns over a time range.
- **Project settings** holds domains, members, roles and billing.

## Working with an AI agent

Zulink also speaks the Model Context Protocol, so an agent in your editor or chat client can create links, read analytics and build preview designs for you, with the same permissions you have yourself. See [MCP Server](https://docs.zulink.co/ai-agents/mcp-server).

[Quickstart](https://docs.zulink.co/getting-started/quickstart) walks you from an empty project to a working short link.
